Abstract
Este trabalho tem como objetivo apontar e analisar as manifestações pela conservação da natureza no Brasil entre 1784 e 1889, período que engloba os últimos anos do Brasil-Colônia e o fim do II Império. São apresentadas as idéias mais remotas que contribuíram na formação de novas posturas e modos de olhar a natureza no Brasil, ainda que essas mudanças não tenham sido suficientes para conter o processo predatório da natureza no país, que perdura e se acentua nos dias de hoje.
