Abstract
Earth is undergoing intense transformations that are threatening the life of living beings. One of the means to remedy this critical state is by means of environmental education. It is being developed at EMEFEI Teacher Laura Rebouças de Abreu, Dois Córregos (SP), the project called "Environmental education of body and soul". The goals are to make the students to recognize themselves as an integral part of nature, to see themselves as historical subjects endowed with the perception that they can change their realities and that their attitudes may have continuity. This project has been using participative methodologies that give voice to all participants, making them to recognize, analyze and propose solutions to their problems. It is dialectic, reflective and aims at overcoming the contradictions experienced through the critical appropriation of reality. Three changes in the students were observed. The first was the extension of their conception of environment and its problematics. Based on this conception, the students built the tree of dreams, meaning what they wanted to happen in order to change their realities. The third momentum was called the stones of the path, that are nothing else than the obstacles found to solve the problems. Based on these findings they began to search and construct the initial and necessary knowledge to obtain their achievements, which are already being put into practice. The conclusion is that environmental education developed by means of these methodologies results in the formation of reflective and politically participatory human beings, so necessary nowadays.
